Looking ahead through the 2025 Annual Report
A year of progress, and a look at what’s next.
The Alberta Insurance Council (AIC) has released its 2025 Annual Report, highlighting the work carried out over the past year to support consumer protection, with a focus on outcomes and accountability.
As the final year of AIC’s 2022–2025 Strategic Priorities, this report reflects the cumulative impact of a multi-year effort to strengthen how the AIC delivers on its mandate to protect Alberta insurance consumers. It captures how regulatory work translates into measurable results for both the public and the industry.
From activity to impact
A defining theme of the 2025 Annual Report is a shift toward understanding the impact of regulatory work, not just the volume of activity. Over the past several years, the AIC has placed increasing emphasis on how its efforts impact outcomes for consumers and licensees.
This includes strengthening data-informed decision-making and improving how information is communicated to those who rely on it. Rather than focusing solely on outputs, the report highlights how these efforts contribute to more effective, responsive regulation.
Supporting a changing environment
The insurance landscape continues to be shaped by emerging risks, new technologies, and changing consumer expectations. In 2025, the AIC continued to adapt its approach to reflect this environment while maintaining relevance and clarity in its regulatory role.
This includes ongoing work to enhance processes and support licensees in understanding and meeting their responsibilities, as well as expanding AIC’s mandate to better guide the education of licensees. These efforts are designed to ensure that regulation keeps pace with the realities of the industry while remaining grounded in public protection.
Looking ahead
The 2025 Annual Report marks a transition point. With the conclusion of the current strategic cycle, the AIC is moving forward with a renewed focus on delivering meaningful outcomes through its next set of strategic objectives.
This next phase will build on the foundation established over the past four years, with an increased emphasis on risk-based regulatory approaches, education, and client-centred services supported by data and collaborative insight.
The 2025 Annual Report offers a comprehensive look at how these priorities have taken shape and what they mean for Alberta’s insurance sector. We invite you to read the full report to learn more about the work behind the numbers and the direction ahead.
