Call for nominations: General Insurance Council and Life Insurance Council

The Alberta Insurance Council (AIC) is now accepting nominations for two general insurance agent representatives on the General Insurance Council (GIC) and one life insurance agent representative on the Life Insurance Council (LIC). These are unique opportunities for licensed professionals to give back to their industry and play a critical role in protecting Alberta consumers.

Why should I nominate someone?

Serving on the GIC or the LIC is more than a professional milestone—it’s a chance to contribute to the integrity and regulation of Alberta’s insurance industry. Whether you’re nominating a respected colleague or putting your own name forward, this is your opportunity to:

  • Ensure your industry perspective is reflected in important matters.
  • Bring your experience to the table and provide valuable input on compliance issues.
  • Strengthen public trust by upholding high standards, professionalism, and accountability.

Who can be nominated?

To be considered, candidates must reside in Alberta and meet other eligibility requirements. Review the full eligibility requirements for the:
General Insurance Council
Life Insurance Council

How do I nominate a candidate?

Submit your nomination to elections@abcouncil.ab.ca by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025. Each nomination must include:

  • A letter of nomination signed by at least five licensed agents of the same license class;
  • A brief biography and headshot of the candidate for distribution to voters.

Remember, you may nominate yourself or a fellow colleague. However, no individual may be nominated as a candidate for membership on more than one Industry Council at the same time, nor may they be a candidate for membership or a member on an Industry Council and Appeal Board at the same time.
