Superintendent of Insurance – Adoption of CCIR / CISRO Fair Treatment of Customers Guidance

This Interpretation Bulletin outlines the expectations of how insurance intermediaries should conduct insurance business and what constitutes fair treatment of consumers.

This joint Interpretation Bulletin from the Superintendent of Insurance and the Alberta Insurance Council outlines how insurance intermediaries are expected to conduct insurance business and what constitutes fair treatment of consumers based on the Guidance Conduct of Insurance Business and Fair Treatment of Customers.

The guidance was developed by the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) and the Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organizations (CISRO). The Superintendent and the AIC expect insurers and intermediaries to use the principles set out in the guidance to inform their policies and procedures and to apply the guidance based on the nature, scope, and size of their respective businesses.
